In my animated short "Part I/II," I was attempting to create a story using only abstract shapes. The idea behind the animation was a simple one: A closed system experiencing a small break that leads to a shutdown. This whole animation could be easily replicated using a particle simulation, but at the time I was too scared to touch that stuff, so it was created with an individual layer for each circle. I'm still trying to convince myself to this day that there was some value in that. This was also the first work I got funding for through the Canada Arts Council. I submitted some grubby storyboards and really didn't have a body of work at the time, so the fact they took a chance on me was pivotal.
